Calculate the exact expiry date of any medicine, drug, or pharmaceutical product. Simply enter the manufacturing date and shelf life to get instant results.
Every medicine has a printed expiry date that indicates the last day the manufacturer guarantees the product's full potency and safety. Beyond this date, the chemical composition may degrade, making the medication less effective or, in rare cases, potentially harmful.
| Medicine Type | Typical Shelf Life | After Opening |
|---|---|---|
| Tablets & Capsules | 2–5 years | Use as labelled |
| Liquid Oral Medicines | 1–3 years | 1–6 months |
| Eye Drops | 2–3 years | 28 days |
| Antibiotics (liquid) | 2–3 years (sealed) | 7–14 days |
| Creams & Ointments | 2–3 years | 6–12 months |
| Insulin | 2–3 years (sealed) | 28–30 days |
| Vaccines | 1–2 years (sealed) | As prescribed |
Indian drug packaging regulations require manufacturers to print both the manufacturing date ("Mfg. Date") and the expiry date ("Exp. Date") on all pharmaceutical products. Dates are usually printed as MM/YYYY or MM-YYYY.
If only the manufacturing date is given along with the shelf life in the product insert, use our calculator to determine the exact expiry date.
Expired medicines should not be flushed down the sink or thrown in regular household waste. In India, many pharmacies and hospitals participate in drug take-back programs. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recommends returning expired medicines to authorised collection centres for safe disposal.
